Review: Dream Maker DreamMaskI am so
excited about the new product I got today: the DreamMask by
Dream Maker.
I have been interested in lucid dreaming for a long, long
time -- 30 years or so. I have had several lucid dreams, but
I've never gotten to the point where I could have a lucid dream
whenever I wanted to.
A lucid dream is one in which you notice that
you're dreaming; and when you know you're dreaming, you
can control your dreams! There are so many things you can
do when you control your dreams: You can fly! That's
really fun! You can confront your fears -- a very powerful
application. You can visit foreign lands, travel to other
planets and galaxies, meet new friends, talk with a spirit
guide, have a love affair with your favorite actor, and do
things you would never do in "real" life just for fun!
I have bought quite a number of products over the years to
facilitate my attempts at becoming an "oneironaut," or lucid
dreamer.

If you're interested in purchasing the
DreamMask, I can offer you a reduced price. It normally sells
for $299.00, but I've made a deal with the manufacturer for my
readers. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for
details!

First, of course, there are a number of
books on the subject.
There are many CDs and even herbal supplements available,
too.
A couple of years ago, I purchased a Lucid
Dreaming Kit, which was also excellent.
Nevertheless, lucid dreaming is challenging. We're just not
used to waking up in our dreams. And it takes real effort to
acquire that skill.
But this! This is the great hope of lucid dreamer
wannabes!
A dream mask helps you realize you're dreaming by detecting
when you're in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. That's the time
when you begin to dream. When the mask detects your rapid eye
movements, LEDs in the mask are triggered. That light,
theoretically, will prod you just enough to think, "Oh, there's
a bright light blinking; I must be dreaming!"
Of course, you would give yourself intention statements
before you went to sleep, and preferably, throughout the day,
as well, so that you would make that connection between the
light blinking and your dream state.
Why haven't I purchased a dream mask before? Really, I
haven't seen them available until recently. There was something
called the NovaDreamer, offered by The Lucidity Institute,
but that hasn't been available for years and years.
(Actually, you can find sites online that show you how to
make one ... if you're a smart engineer -- it's way over my
head.)
So, I was surfing the Internet one day last week and came
across a site that sold the Dream Maker DreamMask!
And here I am, literally minutes after opening the package,
reading the support material and checking it out.
So, what's it like?Everything is well-packaged and
includes a welcome letter, the mask itself, the DreamMaker
workbook, a little circuit board that fits into the mask, and a
book:
Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D., and Howard
Rheingold (LaBerge is the founder of The Lucidity
Institute.)
I was a little daunted at first looking at the little
circuit board with all its tiny buttons and switches, but
decided to just follow the directions and pictures (big
pictures!) in the owner's manual to figure it out.
Well, the instructions in the manual and the sheet that
comes with the circuit board are slightly different. First
thing, it says make sure "Dip Stick #2" is down, or it could
break the unit. The manual doesn't say anything about that. Ah,
well, apparently I didn't break it yet, even though I turned
the unit on with Dip Stick #2 up, so I guess I'm OK.
There is a long list of instructions having to do with that
little circuit board, but if you follow the directions
carefully, it starts to make sense. I got my circuit board set
up and put it in the mask, which is actually pretty
comfortable, and tested the lights and tone, and everything
seems to work correctly.
Next step: Sleep!
First night: Well, straight away, I had two lucid
dreams, one right after the other. I dreamt that my dog Roby
had eyes that glowed red, and I thought to myself (in the
dream), "Wow, Roby's eyes are red -- that must mean I'm
dreaming!"
Immediately, I thought, "Wow, that means I can fly!" And I
did! I flew right out the window that was next to Roby.
I had basically the same dream shortly afterward -- I
noticed Roby's bright red eyes and thought, "Wow, this is cool!
Every time I see Roby's red eyes, that's a sign that I'm
dreaming."
This second time, though, I don't remember anything after
the realization of dreaming. It must have turned into a regular
dream right away. Both dreams were very short.
I woke up around 4 a.m., and clicked on the "reality check"
button on the circuit board to reset it. But I wasn't wakened
by the LEDs or tones later in the morning, and I don't remember
any other dreams.
I should say here that, even with a tool like this, lucid
dreaming takes patience and effort. It is a challenge.
But a tool like this can give you, theoretically, the best
chance for being awakened just enough right during a dream that
you'll be able to become lucid in your dreams. And then the fun
begins! (Of course, there is still work to be done to get "good
at" lucid dreaming; in other words, you can develop your skills
over time so that you can stay in your lucid dreams longer and
control your dreams better. And what awesome skills to learn --
the benefits are innumerable!)
