Versatile software has fantastic potential for creating your own personal development sessions

I had a chance in the past few days to try out the Neuro-Programmer 2 Professional software on my laptop at home. I was really looking forward to it, and I wasn't disappointed.

Installation was easy. In fact, if there's one thing I could say about Neuro-Programmer it's that everything is intuitive and user-friendly.

This is an innovative software application that can help you achieve fast and long-lasting changes in your personal life. There are more than 115 audio-visual session files included, and an unlimited number of custom sessions you can create for yourself, with any combination of assistance from the software along with whatever custom parts you want to add yourself, such as your own voice, or your own sound files.

Neuro-Programmer 2 Using brainwave neuroscience and psychological techniques, you can "reprogram" your mind and enhance your mental abilities.

There are two versions of this software: the Home edition, which sells for $44.99, and the Professional version, which sells for $59.99 and includes professional-grade session-creation tools, sample sessions, the ability to create plug-ins and more.

The Professional version, which I was using, is very easy to use. There's a wizard to help you get started, and the way it's set up, it's pretty intuitive. Start-up tips help you get to know the program better each time you use it.

When you get ready to do a session, you're prompted to add "suggestions" from a long list of suggestions available, everything from breaking addictions to goal setting; healing to motivation and energy; relaxation to weight loss and self-esteem, etc. The suggestions are just a few seconds long -- just one sentence each, but you can string a whole bunch of them together for one session, and loop them so they'll repeat throughout the session length.

In addition to verbal suggestions, there are a few scripts to help you relax into a nice suggestible state.

You also have all kinds of options for how recordings fade in and out, the delay time between recordings. You can even speed them or up slow them down to taste.

An AudioStrobe feature is built in (flashing lights in sync with the brainwave entrainment), and you can adjust the brightness, of course. Essentially, you can use your laptop as a "mind machine," as well as a self-hypnosis CD creation tool.

There are background sounds included with the software -- sounds such as deep wind, beach, rain and birds, underwater ambience, night sounds, even piano -- very pleasant!

With Neuro-Programmer 2 Professional, you can also totally create your own custom sessions, mapping the brainwave entrainment tones over time, adding ambient sounds, your own custom suggestions and scripts. This is very useful if you have a specific challenge you'd like to address.

Other features include a test you can take to discover whether you're more of a visual learner (learn better by seeing or being shown), auditory learner (learn better by listening) or kinesthetic learner (learn better by doing).

Another cool feature is a session recommendation wizard, where you can choose several different options, and the NP2 will show you which programs are best suited for you.

But to make it totally custom, you can record your own suggestions within the program, or you can record your voice or background sounds separately and import them. Alternatively, using the included text-to-speech editor, you can type out affirmations or suggestions and "Microsoft Sam" will voice them for you.

The help guide is extensive -- there's lots of information available to help you every step of the way. There are also individual guides on brainwave theory and "mental programming" theory; guides on self-programming, suggestions, affirmations and visualization; and one on various relaxation techniques.

Whether you go for the Professional or the Home edition (you can upgrade later if you like), you get an awful lot of bang for your buck. It's the kind of software that you can spend a long time getting to know -- not because it's difficult, but because it's so rich!
